Leeches as parasites are really disgusting to us - they definately are on the ugly side too :) They feed on the body fluids of fish and if a human (or other mammal) happens to come along, well, they aren't picky - you'll do. All the same, they give me the heebie jeebies. Some are carnivores that feed on insect larvae (ok, small benefit there) and leeches do have a great ability to quickly and cleanly 'suck up' hematomas. The FDA has approved them for use (rofl) - but yuck - that's right up there with using maggots to eat dead tissue. It works because they don't eat live tissue - but still gross (shudder). Well, I hope that gives you food for thought (hahahahah) and you don't have nightmares and now when you see a leech you can think of the benefits they offer (rofl)
